Skeletons. Spooky or Inspiring?

The air is cooling, the leaves falling, and for many, Halloween is right around the corner. The preparation scramble has begun. People are assembling the perfect costume, making trick-or-treat plans, and decorating their houses. Even here at the New Earth headquarters, there are some silly (others that are quite spooky) skeletons hanging on the walls. While these skeletons might make one gasp or get excited for the holiday, they can also serve as a reminder that those bones are inside each and everyone of us!

The skeletal system serves a very important purpose of support and movement; without it, no one would be able to get much accomplished! As we age, the skeleton we’ve had for our entire life goes through a lot of wear and tear. Each soccer game, marching band practice, and track meet you participated in as a kid leads to a lot of use, and many times overuse. Even now, when you run a Thanksgiving 5k or join in for a #FitnessFriday workout, your bones and joints are putting in the work for you. Take a moment to thank your joints and bones, but more importantly, support them the way they support you!

While we might be leading up to the spookiest week of the year, this week is special too. It’s Bone and Joint National Action Week. This week reminds us to take care of our skeleton and work towards stronger and healthier movement and action. This action isn’t just drinking lots of milk or buying new running shoes, it’s about a diet and lifestyle that supports your bones and joints and gives them the nutrients they need. Where do we start?

Calcium

This necessary nutrient is the building block for our bones. It fortifies not only bones but also muscle tissue and various other parts of the body. The body does not create it naturally, so it must be supplemented in our diet. If not, the body will begin taking it from bones, weakening them greatly. Dairy products and dark, leafy greens such as spinach and kale are all great sources of calcium to strengthen your bones.

Vitamin D

Sunshine and salmon supply your body with calciums best friend, vitamin D. Vitamin D allows calcium to be absorbed properly so bones can grow and stay strong. Adding fish to your diet such as tuna and sardines are great sources, along with orange juice and egg yolks.

Vitamin C

Wear and tear on the bones can often lead to pain and irritation in the joints. Vitamin C helps to manage and reduce this pain and irritation. It is key to maintaining a healthy level of this vitamin: the recommended amount for women is 75 milligrams and 90 milligrams daily. You can find it in many fruits such as oranges, grapefruit, strawberries, and mangoes.

Glucosamine and Chondroitin

These components found in cartilage are essential to joint health and healthy aging. Glucosamine and Chondroitin together support and strengthen the joints as you age. Both occur naturally in the body, but supplementing them gives your joints the support they need. These key nutrients for your joints are also the key ingredients in New Earth’s joint supplement, Flex. Taking Flex every day will go above and beyond for supporting and strengthening your joints to encourage healthy aging.

Boswellia Extract

Also known as Indian Frankincense, Boswellia Extract promotes healthy joints and healthy connective tissue. This incredible extract helps to reduce pain and irritation in the joints. Boswellia Extract can be found in Flex to protect and nourish your joints and bones.

Adding these key vitamins and nutrients while supplementing New Earth’s Flex into your diet can help your bones and joints to become strong and remain strong.

Flex not only contains glucosamine, chondroitin, and boswellia extract, but also the incredible organic Wild Microalgae™, one of the most nutrient-dense foods on earth. Fed by mineral-rich waters and the region’s abundant sunlight, Klamath Lake’s Wild Microalgae is rich in phytonutrients, plant-based proteins, minerals, and essential fatty acids, as well as a wide spectrum of micronutrients, making it a profoundly nourishing food that provides a broad range of benefits.

Flex offers a full range of nutrients for your whole body. So, let’s not pass up this Bone and Joint National Action Week as a time to step up our game and strengthen the skeleton that supports us the most!
